How does a balcony power station work?
The Offgridtec balcony power station is a compact Solarasystem. It consists of one or more solar modules and the appropriate Hoymiles micro inverter for feeding into the home power grid. Ideally, the inverter is attached directly to the substructure of the solar module and connected to the solar module using the mc4 connectors. the ac cable is connected via the inverter's Betteri connection and routed directly to the appropriate earthed socket. No special settings are required to use the solar power generated in the domestic power grid. If electricity is already available from local sources, the appliances in the household use this first and then supplement with mains power as required.
The complete balcony power station system contains:
- 2x Luxen Solar 450w Full Black solar module luxpower series 5
- 1x Hoymiles hms-800w-2t micro inverter
- 4x 2m 6mm² MC-4 connection cable plug/socket extension
- 1xHoymiles HMS connection cable Field Connector Plug&Play(5m)
- Optionally selectable: Mounting package for Balcony railing - Flat roof - Plain tile roof - Tiled roof - Corrugated hernite and sheet metal roof (The respective sets contain suitable 1.25 m long profile rails for the balcony power station)
Luxen Solar 450w Full Black solar module luxpower series 5
The Luxpower 450w Full Black solar module (lnvk-450m) of the Series 5 from Luxen Solaris the successor to Luxen Solar's 450w Series 4 solar module (LNSU-450M) and utilizes advanced monocrystalline technology with a gallium-doped structure and a 120 half-cell layout. It offers excellent anti-PID performance, three integrated by-pass diodes and a two-part arrangement of the cell strings. This ensures high hot-spot resistance in single use and reliable current output in strings with many modules, even under unfavorable lighting conditions or partial shading. Its elegant full-black design makes it the ideal choice for Solaranstallations on residential buildings, balcony power plants and many other applications.

hms-800w-2t Micro inverter with integrated WiFi
The hms-800w-2t (mpn: hms-800w-2t) fromHoymiles is the perfect micro inverter for a balcony power plant. In addition to the integrated WiFi module in Industry+ quality to be mentioned here, the compact lightweight (only 3.2kg) is ideal for solar power production with up to two solar panels with an output of 320 to 540+w each. Just like all other micro inverters from Hoymiles, it is suitable for long operating hours and wide PV module applications, as its starting voltage is very low (only 22v) and the DC input range of the operating voltage (16-60V) is extremely wide.
Features
- Integrated WiFi module
- Minimization of the effects of e.g. shading, dust or ageing by mppt
- High-quality energy generation with high mppt accuracy
- Optimum system reliability
- Peak efficiency of 96.7%
- 12-year product guarantee
- High level of safety thanks to integrated protective functions
- Simple installation
- Long service life
- Complies with vde-ar-n 4105: 2018, en 50549-1: 2019, vfr 2019, IEC/en 62109-1/-2, IEC/en 61000-6-1/-2/-3/-4, IEC/en 61000-3-2/-3
Two MPP trackers for optimum solar yields
Maximum Power Point Tracker technology is used to generate the best possible yield from a Solarasystem. The mppt determines the optimum ratio between irradiance, module temperature and solar cell type over the course of the day. Thanks to the two MPP trackers in the hms-800w-2t, the optimum operating point for the two PV strings can be optimized separately. The two trackers work independently of each other and so, for example, shading on one string would have no effect on the second.
Simple design
PV systems with Hoymiles microinverters are very easy to plan. You do not need to install cumbersome conventional inverters. Each microinverter can be quickly mounted on the PV mounting frame or directly under the PV module. The PV module is connected to the microinverter directly on site, eliminating the risk of people being exposed to dangerously high DC voltage.

Balcony power plants in Germany
There is currently no law or ordinance in Germany that regulates the generation of solar power for purely domestic use. The maximum limit of 600w ac PV power is a reserve value which, according to the current VDE standard, can be fed into an existing socket circuit of a house without overloading it. Nothing is described for independent circuits without additional load.
Every electrical installation should be VDE-compliant. However, operating a balcony power station via the standard earthed socket is not prohibited. Registration with the Federal Network Agency is mandatory. However, there are no known cases of fines for non-registration of balcony power stations or insurmountable problems with network operators. Compliance with and implementation of standards and obligations is the responsibility of the system operator. A great deal of technical and legal information can already be found on relevant websites.
